Greater numbers of senior dogs are finding their way to DVGRR, and these dogs have typically only known life in a home. Replicating a home-like atmosphere helps us better prepare them for adoption with loving families or provide permanent hospice care as needed. Plus, we continue to rescue dogs from the horrors of life in a puppy mill. These survivors require extensive rehabilitation which is provided through DVGRR’s Project Home Life, and the Sanctuary lets us expand that effort.
Staff and volunteers care for these dogs in a home-like atmosphere with typical household sights and sounds that help puppy mill survivors adjust and help senior dogs to feel more “at home.” Our Continuing the Journey booklet provides a wonderful overview of the rehabilitative work we do.
Additionally, the Sanctuary also houses its own Special Care Unit for dogs that require isolation, so they can begin to participate in Project Home Life sooner.
